Super Simple, Home-made Banana Ice Cream

Tonight after dinner, I was craving something sweet. (weird, I know.) I didn't have any ice cream, (nor the energy to run out and grab some) and I wasn't feeling my usual satisfaction with my tablespoon of peanut butter, so I was feeling a little defeated. I rummaged through the refrigerator, and the light-bulb went on as I stared at a pile of over-ripened bananas I had stashed in the freezer. I decided to go out of the box a little and try something that I've heard of many times: One-ingredient banana ice-cream. You're probably as skeptical as I was, thinking, 'yeah, right'; but I'm telling you, this is ah-mazing!

**DISCLAIMER** before anyone out there gets all crazy, [as I saw on another blog-site that I got this recipe from] I, in no way assume any credit for this as I realize this idea has been around since before I was born. I simply want to share this recipe with my friends.

Since I am super picky when it comes to the ripeness of my fresh bananas, (I like them still a little green) it seems like I've always got a stock-pile of bananas in the freezer, which eventually end up in bread or cake...until now!

1]] Take frozen bananas (I used two).
Make sure they have been frozen for at least a day. Also, if you are planning on making this ahead of time, peel the bananas first before freezing...makes for easier time during the process and saves your hands from frost-bite!

2]] Cut the bananas into small chunks, and throw 'em in a blender or food processor. Pulse the blender stopping frequently to scrape down the sides. Eventually, the bananas will turn creamy and soft, just like soft-serve ice cream!

3]] Top with your favorite items!

At first, I was thinking that it would be an overwhelming banana-y flavor, but it was actually just nice and subtle! Added mini-chocolate chips and chocolate syrup made it really yummy. This was my first time to try this out, but I definitely plan on experimenting with frozen or fresh berries, pecans, and anything else that would be good! Or, add milk and Hershy's Lite syrup while blending, and have a healthy[er] chocolate-banana shake without the extra calories of vanilla ice-cream. Really, the possibilities are endless! Have fun and happy, healthy, indulging :)
